The Winter Treatments That Will Prepare Your Skin For The Summer

There is no shortcut to beautiful skin – it takes hard work and effort, especially in winter! This is why we were shocked to find that there are so many people who think that they can ignore their skin in December, believing that they can swap their skincare routines for multiple layers of clothing and some extra time in their homes.

This is really not advisable – your skin is a delicate organ (the largest of the body) and needs to be looked after all year round. This includes the coldest months of winter to the warmest of summer. You might be thinking that it is a bit too early to be worrying about your summer body, but when it comes to your skincare, consistency is key. This is why taking care of your skin in the winter is one of the best ways to ensure you’ll be healthy and ready for summer.

Today we are going to run you through the things that you can do to help prepare your skin for summer, whilst keeping it healthy and hydrated during the gloomiest winter days.

Keep On Top Of Your Skincare Routine!

When it comes to skincare, there are two things that everyone should focus on or at least incorporate into their routine.

Sun Protection: The winter weather may have arrived but you should still be using products with SPF! It doesn’t matter if it is overcast, windy and wet without a single ray of sunshine in sight – UVA rays can still penetrate through the clouds and your skin, contributing to premature skin ageing such as the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. In more severe cases, sun damage can also lead to some forms of skin cancer.

For daily sun protection, we would recommend an SPF of around 15 or 30, however, if you are spending an extended period of time outside (especially in summer) then SPF 50 is advised. Luckily, SPF is not unique to sunscreen anymore, and many skin serums and moisturisers now come with SPF as standard, giving you extra flexibility around how you want to incorporate SPF into your skincare routine.

Antioxidants: Antioxidants are key for helping your body to remain beautiful, youthful and energised throughout the year. They are found in various fruits such as blueberries and blackberries, and help fight those winter skin blues to ensure that it is protected from the harsh weather conditions and ready for the summer sun!

Antioxidants can also help your body calm any cellular inflammation caused by oxidative stress. You can find antioxidants in various skin serums and in Vitamin C, D and E – they are also used in the Mesolift to help slow down the ageing process.

As a side note, where possible we recommend you try and buy a product that comes in eco-friendly packaging – think of all those empty bottles that are discarded each year!

The Time For Treatments Is Now!

When it comes to winter, there are numerous treatments you can opt for which will benefit you now and long into the warmer months. For a lot of people, opting for treatment in winter is preferable as not only are the conditions more suitable for treatments such as the Obagi® Blue Peel, but it is also the best time of year to try multiple non-invasive procedures due to the reduced risk of sun damage – especially if you’ve been using your SPF!

Nothing beats a facial peel when it comes to revitalising your skin’s appearance. A facial peel, or a chemical peel, is a treatment that helps target and reduce skin irregularities such as blemishes, spots and fine lines and wrinkles. Here at RP Aesthetics, we offer the Obagi® Blue Peel which can help you combat the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation problems and acne scarring as well as manage an uneven skin texture. It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure after this treatment, which is why it is so suited to the winter months!

Dermaroller is another treatment that is great at preparing your skin for the summer! When you join us for Dermaroller treatment, tiny needles will be moved over the surface layer of your skin to stimulate the repair and regeneration process of your skin cells – this causes your skin to produce collagen-rich tissue which is bright and radiant as well as more even in tone and texture. This helps to remove any old, haggard skin and leaves a bright and healthy complexion in its place. The whole process works by essentially “tricking” your body into producing collagen.
