BOTOX®

Wrinkles are caused by the loss of elasticity in our skin, bone structure changes and hyperactivity over time as we age. The combination of these factors along with unavoidable environmental factors result in the formation of lines and wrinkles developing at rest on the forehead and around the eyes.

As we age and using facial muscles repeatedly throughout our lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The aging process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older these areas of over use become damaged and the lines become permanent. Botox® treatment reduces movement of muscles in these areas and the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover causing deep lines to soften and even sometimes fade away soft lines in some instances.

Botox® are utilised to soften the appearance of deep and dynamic lines and sometimes erase fine lines all together. The injections cause interfering of communication between the nerve impulse and the muscle. Small quantities are injected directly into the muscle which can make the final result look natural therefore making the treatment very safe and effective.

The Botox® is a neurotoxin, which blocks the release of acetylcholine, and when injected accurately into the muscle, it interferes with the signal, which prevents the muscle from fully contracting.

What is Botox®?

It is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and it helps soften and reduce the appearance of deep and dynamic wrinkles.

How long will my Botox® treatment last?

The Anti-Ageing injections tend to last for around 3-4 months depending upon the individual.

What does the treatment involve?

The treatment involves tiny injections with micro fine needles, which is relatively pain free. The treated area will be cleansed, and then careful measures dosages will be made that will be suitable for your own personal effect, which will then be injected to give your desired result.

How long will the appointment take?

Your appointment will take 30 minutes all together where Richard will take a full history and discuss the treatment areas and work out the right dosages to achieve the best possible result. The treatment itself will take up to 10-15 minutes to administer that involves simple injections, which within days give noticeable reductions in those frown lines around the eyes.

What other effects can Botox® treatment achieve?

Anti-Ageing injections overtime can reduce the appearance of wrinkles at rest and in some cases can eliminate them completely with repeated use.

What are the main areas that can be treated with Botox® ? What advice will I be given pre treatment?

A full medical history/consent and treatment plan will be discussed. Initially when you have Botox® for the first time you will have the minimum dosage in the area, to check you have had no reaction to the medicine. You will also have a before procedure photograph. We recommend you return in 2 weeks to assess the results, check you’re before and after photos and have a touch up if necessary.

What is the post care advice of the treatment?

Refrain from touching the treated area for 12 hours afterwards. Remain upright for 3-4 hours. Do not engage in strenuous exercise straight after treatment. No sport until the following day. Limit your alcohol intake on the day of your treatment. No facial massages for 1 week. No long haul Air travel for at least 72 hours or scuba diving for at least a week post procedure. Do not wear make up.

What are the potential side effects of Botox®

Bruising may occur from the micro fine needle used. This is not very common but more likely around the eyes. Slight redness. Headache, particularly with forehead procedure. Rarely: nausea, distant muscle tremors or a flu-like illness. Dropping of the eyelid: This happens in less than 1% of patients and will disappear over a period of 2-10 weeks and is also treatable with eyedrops. Drop in eyebrow postion: if it occurs, it is only temporary but can take up to 10 weeks to go. Double vision: this is generally specific to when crows’ feet have been treated. The problem will last up to a couple of weeks but is not treatable and will mean you will be unable to drive for that time. An asymmetric elevation of one eyebrow tail is again rare. It maybe due to tracking of the solution so it is vital to follow the post care instructions.

When should I look for a re injection treatment?

It is recommended your next treatment should be at least 3-4 months later for the first year, less frequent after repeated treatments.
