Radiant Skin Awaits With SkinPen
In 2024, we’re expanding our treatment list to include the transformative SkinPen! This cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatment stimulates collagen production to address a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines, enlarged pores and acne scarring. At the beginning of the year, RP Aesthetics will be receiving training with the device, ensuring our team is equipped with the expertise to deliver exceptional results. How Does SkinPen Work?
SkinPen is a handheld microneedling device used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and facial acne scars. Using ultra-fine needles, micro-channels are created within the skin at a rate of 1600 per second. The process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, prompting the production of collagen and elastin, essential proteins that give the skin its elasticity and firmness. As the tiny punctures heal and collagen levels increase, sagging skin is lifted and fine lines appear reduced. A new network of blood vessels develops, increasing blood flow to the treated area, resulting in a rejuvenated, more youthful look.
Unrivalled Results For Acne Scarring
Acne scars are often the result of the skin’s attempt to repair itself after inflammation caused by acne lesions. Collagen fibres quickly made in response to wound healing are not produced in the same way as healthy strands. Microneedling helps to break down scar tissue and induce the growth of new collagen fibres, leading to a smoother and more even skin texture. Over a series of sessions, SkinPen can significantly reduce the appearance of acne scars, providing you with a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment option for achieving a smooth and even complexion.
Is the treatment safe?
The device uses single-use, sterile needle cartridges that reduce the risk of infection and eliminates cross-contamination between patients. Like all aesthetic procedures, there are potential risks and side effects. Adverse reactions are typically mild and temporary, including redness, swelling and minor discomfort immediately following the procedure. It is crucial to choose a reputable practitioner when undergoing cosmetic treatment to minimise risks and ensure optimal results. At RP Aesthetics, we will assess your skin type, medical history and skincare needs during your initial consultation to determine whether microneedling is a safe and appropriate option for you.
Is the treatment suitable for everyone?
SkinPen has been clinically proven to be effective for all Fitzpatrick skin types I – VI, however, several reasons rule out microneedling procedures due to patient safety.
These include:
- Active skin cancer in the treatment area.
- Open sores in the treatment area.
- Irritated skin in the treatment area.
- Hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic dysfunction.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
When will I see results?
Your skin’s natural repair process takes time, with results starting to appear after a couple of weeks. As collagen synthesis continues, fine lines soften and your complexion becomes more even in texture and tone. Most people require a minimum of 3 sessions for best results, with the full impact of your treatment seen approximately 4 weeks later.
