It is hard to believe that there was once a time when people kept their cosmetic procedures a closely guarded secret. In celebrity culture, the media besieged the rich and famous for newly smoothed-out skin, with their victims fiercely denying the allegations. Even considering having work done was kept hush-hush amongst close friends and family.
Fast-forward to 2021 and posts on Instagram with the hashtag #filler near three million. With over two thousand posts per day advertising and flaunting #filler treatments, it’s safe to say that cosmetic procedures are no longer a private indulgence, nor a source of unease or embarrassment.
Perhaps the assumption years ago was that surgery was the go-to method to maintain youthful-looking skin. Injectables have since taken the market by storm and are comparatively low cost and minimally invasive. Acting as a low-risk alternative to surgery, it’s no surprise that booking in for the likes of Botox® and Dermal Fillers is almost as commonplace as getting a haircut.
At RP Aesthetics, we believe that our clients should feel confident in their choice of treatment. During our in-depth consultations, clients discuss their desired look, be that subtle enhancement or something more dramatic. Our aim is for them to leave our clinic feeling content and refreshed, whether they wish to share their treatment with others or not.
Let’s take a look at our three most popular injectable treatments.
Botox®
We express a great deal of emotion through our facial expressions; frowning in confusion, wrinkling our foreheads when surprised and creasing the skin surrounding our eyes when we laugh. Over time, collagen and elastin production decreases and these lines become permanent.
Botox®, or Botulinum toxin, blocks signals from the nerves to the facial muscles, softening the appearance of dynamic lines and sometimes ensuring they fade away altogether. This neurotoxin is injected directly into the muscle and prevents it from fully contracting.
The effects of the treatment last for around 3-4 months, however, some clients report much longer-lasting results. For a more complete approach to anti-ageing, Botox® works well alongside other treatments such as Dermal Fillers, PDO threads and Mesolifts. Your consultant at RP Aesthetics will suggest which combination would work best for your skin, depending on your desired outcome.
In addition to its anti-ageing benefits, Botox® also effectively treats hyperhidrosis, lazy eye and eye twitching, cervical dystonia and migraines.
Dermal Fillers
Alongside collagen and elastin production depleting with age, the fat pads found in the face will also shrink and descend due to changes in structural support. As a result, the skin begins to sag, notably affecting the eyes, cheeks, jawline and nasolabial area.
Dermal Fillers provide a safe, instant and non-permanent solution to this problem. When injected into the target area, the substance adds volume to the skin, creating delicate contours and smoothing out lines. If administered correctly, Dermal Fillers can lift descended fat pads, effectively correcting the ageing process.
RP Aesthetics uses high-quality Dermal Fillers such as Juvederm® and Restylane®, both of which are soft, injectable gels containing hyaluronic acid. With Dermal Fillers, not only are wrinkles smoothed away, but the body’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid is boosted, resulting in hydrated, more youthful-looking skin.
Results typically last around six months, although some clients do not require further treatment for up to two years. Dermal Fillers provide a natural look as they can be used subtly and such treatment does not inhibit facial expressions.
Mesotherapy
During a Mesotherapy treatment, a series of injections delivers vitamins, minerals, enzymes and hormones to the mesodermal layer of the skin. This infusion of ingredients nourishes the skin and promotes the production of collagen and elastin. The treatment helps the body to flush out ageing toxins, instantly brightening lacklustre tones.
Mesotherapy also aids fat reduction and dramatically improves the appearance of cellulite. Once injected, the formula increases the local metabolic rate, preventing cells from storing fat and breaking down existing fat cells. The disrupted fatty deposits are carried through the bloodstream and excreted by the kidneys and bowel, as would occur naturally during weight loss.
Cellulite occurs when the skin is pulled downwards by connective tissue bands over localised areas of fat. Mesotherapy interferes with these connective tissue fibres, significantly reducing the bumpy texture of the skin.
A course of weekly injections spaced across eight weeks is required for optimal results, however, the number of sessions you attend may vary depending on the severity of the area being treated. Results are long-lasting and, in some cases, permanent, so long as weight remains stable and the client adheres to healthy lifestyle choices.
COVID Vaccination Safety
It has been documented that a small number of patients who received Dermal Filler treatments in close proximity to their COVID vaccinations experienced noticeable facial swelling post-treatment. RP Aesthetics is therefore enforcing a three-week gap in between a client receiving their jab and undergoing an injectable treatment. It is important for your safety that you disclose the date of your most recent vaccination to your practitioner during your consultation.
